Dr. Biswanath Mukhopadhyay passed MBBS from R.G.Kar Medical College, Kolkata. He was awarded Sir Nil Ratan Sircar Gold Medal for securing the highest marks in aggregate. He then went to PGI, Chandigarh, and did MS (Surgery)and MCh(Pediatric Surgery) from PGI, Chandigarh. He went to the UK and passed FRCS(Edinburgh) and FRCS(Glasgow).
He visited the UK as a British Council Fellow and then as a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons.
He worked in the UK at Maelor Hospital, Wrexham, and Birmingham Children’s Hospital. He was invited to visit The Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati, USA as Visiting Professor and delivered a Guest lecture. He also visited Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA twice. He was invited to give Guest Lecture in Slovakia, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. He has also presented papers at different conferences in Budapest( Hungary), Rome, Dubai, Singapore, Nepal, and different parts of India.
He has served as Professor and Head of the Department in IPGME&R, SSKM Hospital, Kolkata, and NRS Medical College for more than 28 years.
He has served as President of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons.
At present, he is working as a Consultant Pediatric Surgeon at Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata.
He served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons (from 2012 to 2017)which is an indexed journal in PUB MED.
He has a special interest in pediatric urology, anorectal malformations, and pediatric oncology.
