- MBBS from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai.
- MS (General Surgery) from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore.
- FMAS (Fellow of Minimal Access Surgery) awarded by the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI).
- Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery training from IRCAD, Strasbourg, France.
- Robotic Surgery Training from World Laparoscopic Hospital, New Delhi.
Dr. Shanmugam has performed over 2,500 basic and advanced laparoscopic surgeries in the past 20 years, making him a leading expert in his field.
