Dr Venkatesh Munikrishnan is one of Chennai’s top colorectal surgeons with an illustrious career spanning over 26 years. He completed his MBBS at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai in 1995. Following this he moved to the UK in 1996 for his specialist training in surgery at Cambridge University Teaching Hospitals. Dr Munikrishnan spent a significant portion of his career accruing international exposure and training.

In 2000, he was appointed as Clinical Research Fellow at the University College London to undertake research into screening for colorectal cancer. His work was successfully published in reputed medical journals and presented at various international meetings. He was also awarded the Membership to the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) of Edinburgh in 2000. In 2003, he was appointed as Specialist Registrar in General/Colorectal Surgery to the UK South West Higher Surgical Training Programme. Over the years, Dr Munikrishnan has developed a keen interest in the management of all colorectal diseases as well as the emerging role of robotics in colorectal surgery.

An avid teacher, Dr Munikrishnan is actively involved in teaching surgical techniques to postgraduates both in India and in the UK. In his free time, Dr Munikrishnan enjoys keeping fit with a brisk jog or trekking and hikking, and actively advocating to increase colorectal disease awareness on his social media platforms. He is currently Clinical Lead and Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Institute of Colorectal Surgery, Apollo Hospitals (Main), Greams Road, Chennai.
